Cotswold Air Show celebrates a successful year.

Cotswold Air Show organisers are celebrating a successful year, with large crowds and more attractions during the two-day event.

It is estimated that around 15,000 people attended the event, at Cotswold Airport this weekend (June 19 and 20), which this year commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Major attractions at this year’s event included the world famous Red Arrows aerobatic display team, who displayed on both days at what was their former home, in Kemble, Glos.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight paid a poignant tribute to heroes from a bygone era, while breathtaking displays by a Eurofighter Typhoon, Hawker Hunter, the Black Cats display team, the Swift Glider team and the locally based Renegades civilian parachute team, had the crowds in suspense.

TV presenter and stunt pilot Brendan O’Brien also had the crowd gasping when he managed to land his Piper J3 Cub on the back of a moving trailer.

Event organiser Glen Moreman said: “It’s been a fantastic weekend and we are absolutely delighted with the feedback we’ve been getting.

“The flying displays were of the highest calibre and, with the show commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, many of those taking part paid their own tributes to heroes from a bygone era.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers and people who helped make the 2010 Cotswold Air Show such a success.

“The event continues to grow in stature year-on-year and we very much look forward to seeing everyone again for the show next year.”

Among the visitors to this year’s event were world famous soprano singer Hayley Westenra.

The singer is touring in support of the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund; an organisation which is also supported by the air show.

The event also raised money for a number of other worthy causes.
